Nancy & Steve Timm Continue Long Family Tradition By Co-Chairing Campaign
New Orleans, La - December 2021 - For Nancy Bissinger Timm, the annual fundraising campaign for the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans is deeply rooted in her family’s history.
Nancy and her husband Steve Timm are the co-chairs of the Federation’s 2022 campaign, but Nancy is far from the first Bissinger to get involved. She is proudly following in the footsteps of her father, Roger Bissinger, and her brother, Allan Bissinger.
“I can remember so vividly, even though it was a lot more than 50 years ago, sitting around the dinner table when my father was campaign co-chair,” Nancy said.
As a child, Nancy couldn’t understand why her father wanted to contribute so much time and energy to the fundraising campaign, but she said she learned volumes by watching his tireless work.
“That’s probably when I learned the importance of being part of a community and contributing to that community,” she said. “And now more than ever, we have got to support our Jewish community.”
Steve still chokes up when thinking about helping Allan rebuild the community in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Faced with nearly insurmountable obstacles, the community banded together, rebuilt, and laid the foundation for future growth.
“The whole country stepped up and gave us wonderful support,” Steve said. “It’s our job to continue that support and be there for other communities.”
Steve said he’s excited about helping pave the way for his family to thrive within the Jewish community in the years to come.
“I want my grandchildren to be able to go to the JCC,” he said. “I would like my grandchildren to be part of Jewish Family Services. It’s very important.”
As communities around the world work on rebuilding from the COVID-19 pandemic, Nancy said she is proud to be working to bring people back together and to provide the services they need.
“I think that, for the future, it is so, so, vital that we continue to raise money for our community so that we can support the services in our community,” Nancy said. “I know I am very excited about being part of bringing our community back together, because after all, if you live here, you have resilience, or you would not live here. So please help Steve and me to bring our community together, and to support the people of the Jewish community in New Orleans.”
