Kirkwood Missouri, April 2021 – The law firm of Spector Wolfe McLaughlin & O’Mara specializes in labor law and employee benefit law. The firm represents labor unions and employee benefit funds in the construction, transportation, industrial, manufacturing and service industries.

“Our bread and butter is to labor unions,” Dan McLaughlin, a Partner with Spector Wolfe McLaughlin & O’Mara said. “Every partner in our firm came from the trades.” The firm has over a century of combined experience in representing organized labor, political subdivisions and taxpayers.

McLaughlin says the firm has a passion for helping working people and their families. He says that the passion comes from the path each partner traveled in becoming an attorney.

“We were all members of a labor organization at one point,” McLaughlin said. “We not only practice in it. We believe in it because it is where we came from. So, I’d like to think as a result of that, we have more of a commitment to the movement of labor.”

The firm represents both public and private sector unions in a wide array of industries. They have extensive experience in all aspects of labor law including negotiation, arbitration, National Labor Relations Board representation and litigation.

While protecting the rights of working people has been at the core of their practice, their work extends well beyond traditional labor law.

The firm also specializes in representing first-responders such as fire fighters and paramedics, as well as a number of political subdivisions throughout the #greaterSTL region.

“We have a strong presence in representing fire protection districts,” McLaughlin said. “We currently help eight districts and that is growing area of specialty for us.”

While the firm is growing by adding attorneys, McLaughlin said he expects that they will continue to be a smaller firm that provides personalized service to each client.

“We know that when our clients call, there is a problem,” McLaughlin said.

“We are not like many lawyers out there,” McLaughlin said. “We answer our own phones. We are not afraid to pick up the phone when it rings. We’ve prided ourselves on keeping our costs low because we understand we represent union workers.”

We are a smaller firm that comes with a personal touch that understands, nine out of ten times, the problems that you are having,” McLaughlin said. “There is nothing that is too big or too small for us to handle. Whether it is the $5 question or the $500,000 question, it is going to get the same attention.”
