“So Physiatry is a unique specialty. One of the things that we do a lot of is we coordinate a team of either nurses, therapists, case managers. It can include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech, and language therapy, neuropsychology, recreational therapy, case managers, neuropsychologists. We oversee a large team of individuals who are helping in that patient's recovery to maximize their function. One of the things that we do is when we oversee this team is to be able to provide continuity, to make sure that everybody's playing from the same playbook. If you will, just like in a team sport like football or basketball, you want all the players to be on the same page. The physiatrist in that situation is there as the coach, we're helping that team run smoothly and making sure that the patient gets the best care from each of the disciplines as possible.”
